RICE FALL BALL 2008
For the
third straight exhibition game the Owls
total is 13 and the opponents get 6.
You can't make this stuff up.
Rice scored two runs with two out in the
first. Holt singled to center. Stole
second. Comerota lined out to first.
Not sure why the first baseman was so
close to the line but he made the play.
Mozingo singled to left to score Brock.
Chad stole second and scored on
Seastrunk's single to center. That ended
the Rice scoring. 2-0 after one.
Wall had
an easy first but needed a pitcher's
best friend in the second to hold Texas
to just two runs. A lead-off walk was
followed by a Texas double. An infield
single by Hernandez off Wall's thigh
(?) loaded the bases. A grounder to
deep first resulted in a fielder's
choice scoring a run and leaving the
bases loaded. Not sure what really
happened but the Owls didn't get an out
on the play. A pop to right got the
first out. A bases loaded walk sent
home the second run. Tucker grounded
into a 4-6-3 DP that Holt made a great
stop of a shot to his right. Game tied
at 2.
In the
bottom of the inning Rice had the big
inning of the day. Peterson grounded
out to short. Rathjen singled to left
and stole second. Fuda went down on
strikes.
Then
good things happened for the Owls.
Holt got
his second single to score Jeremy.
Comerota walked; Mozingo blooped a
single to score Brock. The first balk of
the inning scored Jimmy and pushed Chad
to second. Rendon singled to left
scoring Chad. Rendon advanced on the
throw home. Seastrunk singled to score
Anthony. Sultzbaugh tripled to
right-center to score one more. After
Peterson walked, Steven scored on the
second balk of the inning. A total of
seven runs put the Owls up 9-2.
The Owls
scored two more in the fourth. Mozingo
singled for his third straight hit but
was caught stealing. Per an unwritten
baseball rule Rendon then singled.
Seastrunk's double to right-center
scored Rendon who had to hold halfway
between first and second to be sure the
ball wasn't caught. He flashed his
speed and beat the throw home. Diego
took third on a ground-out to right side
and scored on a WP. 11-2 Rice after
four.
No more
runs scored until Texas put two unearned
runs up in the tenth. With Harwood
pitching, Loy singled on a 1-2 pitch.
He stole second. Turner got on via an
error by the third baseman. Throwing
error. An unassisted out at first
scored one. A sac fly to left scored
the second run. 11-4 after 10.
Rice
scored two in the 13th. Comerota
lead-off with a single. He stole
second. Buenger walked. Natale ran for
Jess. A passed ball moved the runners
up and Manuel's two out single to
right plated two runs. 13-4.
Jordan
Rogers pitched the fourteenth. A
lead-off single; stolen base; a walk put
runners on first and second. The Owl
pitcher's 16th strike out of the day
followed. A pop fly to center made it
two outs. A single to center got one
home with runners on the corners.
Jordan threw to first to get the runner
in a pickle. The Owls conceded the run
to get the final out of the game. The
final was the 13-6 score.
